when you check your phone though, you cant help the small smile that tugs at your lips. He is so adorable when he is tired. Poor baby couldnt sleep and just wanted someone to talk to and cuddle and generally be all sappy with. You regret not being able to answer your phone.

Which is why you decide to call him now instead.

You’re flopped out on the couch dozing off when you hear your phone ring, and you take a minute to dig it out of your abandoned pants pocket, not bothering to check the ID before you unlock and answer. Your voice is a little hoarse from your breathing- your nose is a bit stopped up but you’re too tired (or maybe just too lazy) to get up and get a tissue.

You have also totally forgotten the content of last night’s messages and voicemails.

The word escapes you as more whimper than query, and you squish yourself out of the back and tug Kanaya inside the coon, trying to help her into a more comfortable position. You’re still scared, terrified for her and for Karkat, but it seems like the worst part is over now so you can get to doing what little you can do to aid - namely clinging to your mother like a little troll limpet and nuzzling at her to reassure both her and you that she’s okay. She doesn’t smell hurt anymore, damaged or otherwise, just… tired. Maybe you should let her rest?

Still on the floor, you strip off your shirt, pour water over your face and chest, then wiggle out of your pants and stand up, fixing your boxers as best you can and worming your way into the coon. You smell like pain and feel like you’re about to be sick, but the sopor helps sooth you, and you end up curling up with your head on Kanaya’s shoulder, one arm resting under her back, the other draped over her stomach.

It’s a little bit crowded, but they’re your family too. You’re okay with being crowded with them.

With Kanaya’s doom reversed so she is pretty much back to how she should be, you take a deep breath. Karkat climbs up in to the coon with them, but that is not something you yourself are comfortable doing and instead stumble over to the wall. Its nice a cool and you slide down the wall. There is a large pounding in your head, and that had been way more difficult than it should have been. You are exhausted and already you can feel the edges of your mind going fuzzy and dark as your consciousness leaves you.

It’s not going to get better, is it? Everyone’s going to hurt and keep hurting and you’re going to have to watch this forever. Maybe you did die on LOHAC. Maybe this is some kind of eternal torment designed for culled trolls, you don’t know. What you do know is that you are officially terrified nearly out of your wits, and you scoot back as far as you can, curling into a ball and hiding your face with your arms. You half-listen, giving a defeated sigh and slumping over the edge of the coon. Most of your little-enough weight is still held by your legs, though your knees are shaking and you look ready to faint. You return to focusing on the Rainbow dDrinker, forcing a little more of your life force in to her as all the wounds continue healing. She wont even have bruises by the time you are sone.
